Cookies & local storage
Effective 2026-05-11. Draft pending legal review.
We do not use tracking cookies. This page documents every storage key the site sets on your device, why we set it, and how long it lasts.
What we store
| Key | Type | Purpose | Retention | Strictly necessary? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ecc-theme | localStorage | Remembers your light / dark / system theme preference. | Persistent until you clear browser data. | Yes |
| ecc-consent | localStorage | Reserved for a future consent toggle. Currently unused. | 12 months when set. | Yes |
| Vercel Analytics | cookieless | Anonymous aggregated metrics (page views, country, referrer). No cookies; honors Do Not Track. | No client-side storage; server-side aggregates only. | No |
Why so little?
We're a reference site. There is no account to log into, no shopping cart to persist, no personalization beyond the visual theme. Almost every storage key the average commercial site sets is unnecessary for what we do. So we don't set them.
Your choices
• Clear the keys: any modern browser lets you clear local storage for a single site via Settings → Privacy → Cookies and site data. This will reset your theme preference to the system default. • Block analytics: enable Do Not Track in your browser. Vercel Analytics respects DNT and will not record events. You can also use any standard ad/tracker blocker — we don't try to circumvent them. • Browse with the site offline: most pages are static and will work without network once they're cached by the browser.
Third parties
We do not embed third-party trackers, social pixels, advertising networks, A/B testing tools, session replay, or analytics-as-a-service products beyond Vercel Analytics' cookieless mode. The site loads Google Fonts for the type stack; Google's privacy policy covers font requests.
Changes
If we ever start setting additional storage keys, this page is updated first, and the privacy policy is revised accordingly.
